Neon Genesis Evangelion Technical Layouts

The Evangelion Unit 00-02 stand in individual lubricant nutrient chambers since the EVA’s are semi-organic. These chambers can be filled or emptied by commands from operations. These same chambers can be reconfigured to run virtual combat simulations for EVA/Pilot optimization.

Entry Plug: This long, thin capsule-shaped tube in where the Eva pilot is housed. Once the pilot is inside, the Entry Plug is inserted directly into the Eva’s spinal chord. The plug is filled with a viscous liquid substance which smells like blood, called “L.C.L.” When the L.C.L is electrically charged it serves to mentally link the pilot to the Eva and provides oxygen directly to the pilot’s lungs. Much like amniotic fluid, the L.C.L also provides the pilot with protection from mental attacks and physical shock. In an emergency, the Entry Plug can be ejected and is equipped with a parachute for such occasions.

The EVA pilots, which tend to be children under 14 years of age, are inserted into an oxygenated liquid control plug. This plug is inserted via the trapezoidal and mid spine region of the Evangelion. From here the pilot is connected through the spinal synaptic region for cohesion or “synching” with the nuero-muscular structure of the EVA. This allows the EVA to respond to the pilots actions instantaneously, sometimes before the pilot even realizes his intentions.

The EVA runs off of electricity provided by umbilical cable. If disabled (emergency), it can continue from a battery with an active life of one minute at full power and at five minutes in minimal activity; running on only life support for sixteen minutes. This is due to limitations in current (year 2015) battery capacity technology.

Tokyo-3: A fortified city designed to intercept Angel attacks, Neo Tokyo-3 is built above the Geo Front. Many of the city’s skyscrapers are retracted to positions below the ceiling city during attacks. The process is called ‘Battle Formation’. Those structures which remain above ground house weapons, ammunition, and power couplings to be used by the Eva’s during their defense of the city.

Tokyo-3 is the second city built after the destruction of the original city. It is a regular city with some unique features; when under attack the city can descend into a hollow space directly beneath it. This hollow space is called the ‘GEO Front’. This is the name given to the city beneath Neo Tokyo-3, built within a pre-existing, 6km-wide concavity. NERV Headquarters is located at the center of this mysterious space and is surrounded by a subterranean lake and forest. During Angel attacks, many of the high-rise buildings that collectively comprise the “ceiling city” above the Geo Front are retracted into this space for protection. This gigantic artificial sphere was excavated by unknown means or individuals. The process is called ‘Battle Formation’.

The battle formation is designed to provide the EVA’s with every opportunity for a positive/favorable outcome. Specific buildings and areas have been constructed to deliver payloads of weapons and supplies immediately, via an underground network of passageways. This same network is how the Evangelion’s are delivered throughout Tokyo-3.
